Red dawn, Kingfishers and sunset.

Red dawn, Kingfishers and sunset.

I was midway through uploading a video to YouTube when I looked up and saw red skies of dawn as the sun was rising over the fields.

The uploading was forgotten. I had to get out and enjoy the sunrise. It’s September now and the early mornings are less early; and the evenings are definitely catching me out.

In my excitement to see the sunrise, I didn’t grab a camera which was a shame because as I walked over the bridge I saw a Kingfisher standing patiently on a rock. I thought it would fly off straight away but it stayed, and I watched if for quite a while. It then flew from the rock to a branch hanging over the river, and I could still see it, but frustratingly a car was coming down and I had to get out of the way. The Kingfisher darted off. I moved on.

A few weeks ago I went to a river spot on the other side of the moor. It was during one of the many heatwaves and it was evening. I was hoping it would be quiet and that all the visitors gone home for their tea! I was fortunate enough to see that there was only an old converted fire engine parked up, but no-one was around. As soon as I got out of the truck I spotted a Kingfisher. I hadn’t even pick up my camera of the seat. It saw me and disappeared. I got my camera out at the ready and waited patiently, but it didn’t come back and Willow was eager to get in the river.

She paddled for a while, I enjoyed the peace and quiet and then we moved on to watch the sunset over Princetown from Combestone Tor.
